RESUMO

This work presents a study on the fauna of invertebrates, with focus on Chironomidae (Insecta, Diptera), inhabiting phytotelmata of two species of bromeliads (Neoregelia concentrica (Vellozo) LB Smith and Aechmea nudicaulis (Linnaeus) Grisebach) in a fragment of Atlantic Rainforest in a metropolitan area of the State of Rio de Janeiro, named Pau Grande in the city of Magé. For a period of 13 months, from September 2006 to September 2007 were carried out 9 collections, with intervals of approximately 1 months, with the aim of qualitatively and quantitatively analyze the content of local phytotelmata in bromeliads. Observations on the ecological community of invertebrates was made and a taxonomic eand ecological analysis with focus on Chironomidae inhabiting those communities was done as results of the study of 50 specimens of bromeliad. Among the nvertebrates, we observed the Ostracoda as the most dominant; among the insects, the Chironomidae were the most dominant. Representatives of this family of three subfamilies (Orthocladiinae, and Chironominae Tanypodinae) were represented. From the subfamily Tanypodinae was registered the presence of genus Monopelopia as the first occurrence in bromeliads in the state of Rio de Janeiro, we contribute with taxonomic information about the immature of Polypedilum (Chironominae) and it is believed that the Orthocladiinae gen. A is apparently adapted to phytotelmata. Statistical analysis was made and data on volume, pH, the total number of individuals, richness and diversity in the two bromeliads are presented.
