RESUMO

The literature presents a great amount of work involving the simulation of a distillation column in the stedy state as well as in the dynamic state; however, the great majority of them deals with the column in its conventional arrangement The vapor recompression in distillation systems has raised the interest of researchers because of its importance in energy economy. In the present work the stedy state and dynamic simulation are applied to a distillation column with vapor recompression. The separation process by distilation of compounds of relatively low volatility, i.e., the mixed xylenes, is extremely intensive in the aspect of energy consumption. In this study, a separation column of mixed xylenes for the following compounds: ethyl-benzene, para-xylene, meta-xylene, ortho-xylene and l24-trimethyl-benzene was analysed. A comparative study was carried out in the energy consumption for a conventional column and one fitted with vapor recompression.. In addition, the dynamic modeling of the column in its conventional form and with Recompression were develloped to analyse the behavior of both system when the column suffers perturbations of reflux rate, thermal duty of the reboiler and feed rate. The analysis of the stedy state was performed using the ASPEN PLUS commercial program, and the dynamic analysis was done using a classical phenomenological model called tray-to-tray, where the differential equations were integrated by the Runge-Kutta method, develloped in the present thesis ...Note: The complete abstract is available with the full electronic digital thesis or dissertations
