RESUMO

Ultrastructural effects in the liver were studied on 12 dogs submitted to profound hypothermia and extracorporeal circulation. The animals were divided into two groups. Group I the dogs were mantained on cardiac arrest for a period of 50 minutes. Croup II the dogs were mantaneid on low flow rate for a period of 50 minutes. Three biopsies were taken at 37, SB and 29 degrees centigrades. The dogs of group I were mantained on cardiac arrest for a period of 50 minutes. The dogs of group II were mantained on by-pass at E0°C on low flow rate (0,5 l/min/m2) for period of 50 minutes. Rewarming was then started and three more iopsies were taken at the same temperatures in two groups. o changes were noted on the ultrastructure o the liver at the studied temperatures in two groups with no difference between the groups
