RESUMO

The work treats the finite element modeling of the static behaviour of drillstrings equiped with bottom hole assemblies composed by unbalanced drill collars. The drillstring was discretized in beam-column elements having geometric non linearity. The Newton-Raphson Method with an incremental loading scheme was used to obtain the solution of the non linear system of equations. Various classic examples of 2D and 3D beam and frames were used to check the validity of the model. A numerical sensibility analysis of parameters in the convergence of the algorithm and the quality of the solution was performed. The lateral constraint imposed by the borehole walls was modeled by bilinear springs. The elastic constants of the springs were determined by sensibility analysis. The efect of the unbalanced force was incorporated to the model by an equivalent body force, and the tendency of the bottom hole assembly to gain or loose inclination was determined by inspection af the computed reaction force at the bit
