RESUMO

According to traditional medicine several properties like cicatrizant, antiseptic, antiinflamatory, antispasmodic, analgesic are attributed to the plant Porophyllum ruderale, besides others. Aiming to confirm scienbifically some of this activities, we carried out the present work with the following objectives: to verify qualitativelly the active principIes of the Porophyllum ruderale extract by phytochemical tests and to determine through biological activities tests the possible pharmacological effects of the mentioned extract when applied intraperitoneally in mice, doses of20, 40,60,80 and 100 mg/kg. ln addition, we had the pusposes to study the effect of the P. ruderale etanolicextract over the contortions number induced by prostacic1in and acetic acid as imtant agents yvhen is injected intraperitoneally doses like 130, 260, 400 and 550 mg/kg of the extracts as wellas over termical sensivity inhibition with central analgesy test Tail-flick using doses of 150, 300, 350, 400 and 500 mg/kg, and in Hot-plate with doses of 150, 300, 350, 400 and 500 mg/kg: The phytochemical- analysis-.of P. mderale showed the presence of the following constituents: essencial oils, carotenoids, fatty acids, alkaloids, flavonic aglycones, cOUI~arins, tanninSc, tlavonoids, anthocyanids, steroidal saponins. or triterpenic saponins, quaternary amines and mucilage. By means of biological screen testthe animalsshowed apathy, hypotonia, sedation, partial lack of the grasp reflex in anterior members which suggests that this plant could have action in central nerve system. From the results-achieved we may cenc1ude that the plant Porophyllum ruderale own pharmacologic potencial aRd inhibit abdominal contortions in mice, induced in the writhing test by acetic acid and prostaciclin as well as increasethe latency time in the central analgesy tests Tail flick and Hot-plate in rats. ln this way the experimenta"lresults confirm the use in traditional medicine of the mentioned plant as analgesic and antispasmodic.
