RESUMO

The purpose of this in situ study was to evaluate effect of home bleaching agent on sound and demineralizated human enamel. Enamel dental slabs (4 x 4mm), one sound and other with artifical caries lesion, wer:e fixed in first molar of 35 volunteers. Thesis cross-over 2 x 2 study was perfomed in two experimental periods of 3 weeks, preeceeded tDy 2 weeks of run in, with 2 wee~s interval between experimental periods as wash out. During each phase of this blind study, half volunteers used a comercial 10% carbamide peroxide home dental bleachling and the other half used as placebo. The effect of these bleaching agents on sound or carious enamel were compared by microhardness profiles. The t-Student test detect no significant effect of carry-over in demineralizated (p=o, 9862; t=0,0175) and sound enamel (p=O,2553; t=1, 1694). The Analysis of Variance, in a components of variance model, showed no significant difference betwee: bleaching agent (p=o, 784, f=0,10), volunteres grup (p=2121), period (p=6049) e tooth x depth x agent (p=0,984). Difference was signicant between kind-of-enamel (p<0,0001), depth (p<0,0001!) and kind-of;.enamel x depth (p=0,0034). Use at home dental bleaching not promote alterations on sound and demineralizated enamel.
