RESUMO

A sesterterpene called hyrtiosal has recently been isolated from the marine alga Hyrtios erectus, possessing an unstudied carbon skeleton. Since this natural product hat not yet been synthesized nor has its absolute configuration been determined, a study was undertaken to develop enantioselective synthetic routes for preparing hyrtiosal and its basic skeleton, repreeented by the hydrocarbon hyrtiosane. Another study investigated the selective chlorination of sugars with the aim of determining the possible biological activity as masculine anticonceptional agents of the resulting chlorinated sugars.
