Estudo sobre algumas caracteristicas de comportamento psicologico de pacientes com cancer avançado

RESUMO

Patients with advanced cancer were studied with the clinic method to detect knowledge, fantasies and attitudes the they had in relation to their disease and the influence cancer had over doctor-patient and family-patient relationship. The results showed that the majority of patients, probably, deny diagnosis and do not refer to their disease cancer. They also do not know the etiology of their disease, but related them to traumas, infections or toxic agents. None of them believed in the contagiosity to other people. The majority of patients went to the doctor soon the beginning of symptoms. Although they received little information about their diagnosis, they accepted what the prescribed. Moreover, they did not look for other doctors the disease progressed. They were aiso conscious about the seriousness of their disease and the bad prognosis. The comunication doctor-patient did not revel adequate. According to the patient the doctor did not feel like talking about the disease; on the other hand, he, the patient, did feel like expressing his doubts and fears either. The family relationship kept the same or in many cases, the members of the family showed to be more affectionate
