RESUMO

In order to investigate the solidification process involving the phase change of laminar flow submitted to superfreezing, a theoretical and experimental study is developed. An alternative analytical and numerical unsteady model with temperature-dependent physical properties for the solid region is proposed, based upon the energy balance equation in the solid and liquid regions, as well as across the solidification front, employing interface-dependent coordinate grid (the Landau transformation). A rig has been built using liquid nitrogen as refrigerant. The numerical results compare well with the! experimental ones. In order to show the capabilities of the model in comparison to previous numerical methods, the results of a comparative analysis between three numerical solutions for the analytical model due to Neumann, the Apparent Thermal Capacitiy modei, due to Bonacina, a conventional fixed-grid Energy-Equation model due to Goodrich and the present model, are also included
