RESUMO

In the present study the monophyly and phylogenetic relationships of Almeidea A. St.-Hil. (Galipeinae, Rutaceae) were examined using morphological data, including macromorphology of leaves and flowers and pollen morphology and molecular data, including sequences from nuclear regions ITS-1 and ITS-2 and the plastid regions trnL-trnF and rps-16. Almeidea is a exclusively Neotropical genus, ocurring in the Atlantic Rain Forest from Eastern Brazil, with one species (A. rubra) also present in Bolivia. Individual (for each partition) and combined phylogenetic analysis were made, using maximum parsimony, maximum likelihood and Bayesian inference as optimization criterion. The results have showed Almeidea as a monophyletic group supported by molecular data and by a morphological sinapomorphy (pantocolporate pollen). Almeidea lilacina, A.limae and A. rubra appear as closely related in most analysis, while A. coerulea appears as the most basal group in the clade Almeidea. Conchocarpus, another genus that belongs to the same tribe as Almeidea (Galipeinae) appears as close to Almeidea, with the type species of the genus, C. macrophyllus, at the base of the clade formed by these two genera. As a result, Conchocarpus will be monophyletic only with the exclusion of a group of species more distant phylogeneticaly (represented in the analysis by C. concinnus) and with the inclusion of all species of Almeidea in Conchocarpus. It is proposed however, that Almeidea be maintained at the genus rank until a more complete phylogenetic analysis of Galipeinae, especially with a larger sampling of Conchocarpus, be available.
