RESUMO

The tomato mutants alcobaÃa (alc), non-ripening (nor) and ripening-inhibitor (rin) were compared for their post-harvest effects as homozygotes, as heterozygotes and in their double heterozygous combinations. The genotypes Flora-Dade, TOM-559 (alc/alc), TOM-613 (nor/nor), TOM-614 (rin/rin), F1 [(Flora-Dade x TOM-613)] (nor+/nor), F1 [(Flora-Dade x TOM-559)] (alc+/alc), F1 [(Flora-Dade x TOM-614)] (rin+/rin), F1 [(TOM-559 x TOM-613)] (alc+/alc nor+/nor), F1 [(TOM-559 x TOM-614)] (alc+/alc rin+/rin) and F1 [(TOM-613 x TOM-614)] ( nor+/nor rin+/rin), were compared for their effects on the evolution of fruit colour and on the decrease of fruit firmness. Among the homozytes, rin/rin had the most drastic effects in delaying firmness loss and evolution of fruit colour. Among the heterozytes, rin+/rin was more effective than either alc+/alc or nor+/nor; rin+/rin. The double heterozygous combinations alc+/alc rin+/rin and nor+/nor rin+/rin had similar effects. A second experiment evaluated final fruit colour of the genotypes Flora-Dade, TOM-559, TOM-613, F1 (TOM-559 x TOM-613), F1 (Flora-Dade x TOM-559), F1 (Flora-Dade x TOM-613) and the F2 [(TOM-559 x TOM-613)] generation. No recombinant normal phenotypes were detected among 364 F2 plants tested. The hypothesis that alc and nor are alleles in the same locus was considered the most likely. A third experiment carried out at the Brazilian Maize Sorghum Research, located at Sete Lagoas, Minas Gerais State, five almost isogenic tomato lines, Flora-Dade, TOM-559 (alc alc ), TOM-595 (hp hp),TOM-596 (ogc ogc) and TOM-613 (nor nor) were genotyped using 119 RAPD molecular markers. The main objective was to identify molecular markers associated to alc (alcobaÃa), nor (non-ripening), hp (high pigment) and ogc (old gold crimson) alleles. The results did not show any polymorphism even for the three primers previously shown to been linked to the hp allele.
