Estudos sedimentolÃgico, morfolÃgico e hidrodinÃmico do Canal de Santa Cruz â PE

RESUMO

The Chanal of Santa Cruz is estuarine system with 22 Km of extension, two connections of the sea and 36.6 Km2 of area. Itâs situated on Pernambuco North cost and separating ItamaracÂa Island from to the continent. They discharge a set of rivers and streams, being main the Itapessoca, Carrapicho, Botafogo and Igarassu. The mongrove ecossistem it was much destroyed by the human action, like deflorestation and fishes indiscriminate. This work studied the sedimentologic, morphologic and hydrologic aspects of the Chanal of Santa Cruz, to obtain pices of information that they make possible action of management for protection and its adequate exploitation. The used methods had involved collection and sediments analysis, bathymetry and correntometry, for the characterization of the estuarine dynamics. The sedimentologic study showed that sediments in the botton of the Canal are constituted basically by quartzs sands rounded, shining and with presence of bioclasts and pices of beach rocks, generally from moderated selected to well selected. They still demonstrate two standards of deposition related with the circulation hydrodynamics and the depth of the study area. The first one located in the two connections with the sea, with more active hydrodynamics, with deposition of sand avarege to thin one, average depth of 5 meters with maximum of 17 m, and the other in the neighborhoods of ItamaracÂa bridge, with less intense hydrodynamics and deposition of material very thin or mud, and depth of up to 4 meters. The correntometric indicates similar standards of circulation as for the direction of the corrent, between the openings of the Chanal - to the North, Barra de Catuama, and to the South, Barra Orange. The Barra de Catuama presents bigger outflow two times that the Barra Orange. One concludes that the depth of the Chanal intervenes with the hydraulical circulation in order to determine the two standards of sedimentation of the place. In a similar way, the human action, through the real estate exploration and deforestation, modifies the system as a whole. One sends regards to joint action of the government and population for an acceptable exploration of the Chanal
