RESUMO

The purpose of this study is to analyses the kind of household arrangement on children at school age, being out of school or presenting an age/grade deviation. For this, it was considered the factor demographic (the presence of children younger than 7 year at home) and socioeconomic factors (household income per capita and mother education) as variables. With data of the urban area 2000 census of Campinas, São Paulo, on elected as target, children at ages 7-14, attending elementary school or out of it, before finishing that grade, on the selected the simple two-parents household and single-mother household arrangements. Binary logistic regression model was used in the results interpretation. When the household income per capita, the mother education and the presence of younger children effects are included at the logistic model, the household arrangement doesn?t affect the school attendance, but interfere in the age/grade deviation. In the single-mother household there is a 24% higher risk to the children is delayed at school than to the simple two-parents household. The household income per capita and the mother education are the main factors affecting children out of school late in the school grade. The younger children of 7 presence at home showed no statistic significance for the schooling of children
