RESUMO
The research examines changes in diet, sociability and consumption in the city of Sao Paulo between 1828 and 1910, a period of radical transformation of the city. Exports of sugar, and mainly from coffee, had brought not only wealth but also created conditions for the adoption of new cosmopolitan customs, which is reflected in the consumption of different foods - the ice, beer, wheat bread - and other ways to consume them: in cafes, in restaurants in hotels.
