RESUMO

Chusquea meyeriana, a bamboo endemic to the Atlantic Forest, mast-flowered at Fazenda Intervales, southern São Paulo, at the end of 1988. The first mature seeds began to fall on the ground by May, 1989. The estimated production of 25 Kg/ha of seeds had no obvious effect on the rodent populations in the area. Amongst the birds, only Haplospiza unicolor showed any association with the bamboo, being probably a bamboo-seed specialist. Contrary to other bamboos, C. meyeriana appear to minimize seed predation by "hiding" its small seeds among much more abundant aborted flowers and seeds. ?Note: The complete abstract is available with the full electronic digital thesis or dissertations
