RESUMO

This study aims to investigate the presence of the ox mythology in the popular Brazilian imaginary, demarcating its place in the culture and evidencing the ritual that covers those narratives of a mythical and legendary character, starting from the comparative analysis among five works: HistÃria do Boi Misterioso (History of the Mysterious Ox), by Leandro Gomes de Barros; A HistÃria do Boi Mandingueiro e do Cavalo Misterioso (The History of the Mandigueiro Ox and of the Mysterious Horse), by Josà Bernardo da Silva and Luiz da Costa Pinheiro; O boi aruà (The Aruà Ox), by LuÃs Jardim; Boi Aruà (Aruà Ox), by Alba Liberato; and Boi Aruà (Aruà Ox), by Chico Liberato, conceiving them as relevant texts for the focalization of the agrarian memory of our country. The work is organized into two chapters. The first one is concerned with the analysis of the literary texts, and, in the second one, the focus is the film Boi AruÃ. In that way, we intended to identify the different aspects in the constitution of the narratives, considering the traffic among orality and writing, popular culture, pamphlet literature, sainted literature and movies. Therefore, we searched the theoretical-critical thought of the studious authors of the those themes, as: Zilà Bernd, Benedict Anderson, Alfredo Bosi, Mircea Eliade, Paul Zumthor, Jerusa Pires Ferreira, Doralice Alcoforado, Idellete Muzart, Ismail Xavier, Randal Johnson, Tania Franco Carvalhal, Sandra Nitrini, among others. Besides, we believed that the approach â as in the pamphlet texts as in the Boi Aruà cartoon â is tuned in with the contemporary thought that proposes the flexibilization of the canon, allowing to be concerned with other artistic and discursive genres, that for a long time, were to the margin of the academic reflection. This way, the work which we developed, passes among the borders of different languages, trying to give a contribution to the countless subjects found in the specialistsâ researches that approach the discussion about the process of identity national formation, starting from the regional theme. This study still investigates the languages and speeches which identity/alterity is mediated/communicated.
