RESUMO

Macroporous silica gel was obtained by hydrothermal treatment of a microporous silica gel, prepared from sodium silicate and hydrochloric acid at room temperature. The macroporous silica sieved in differents particle sizes, and one grade of diatomaceous earth (celite 545) were analysed in terms of pore sizes by the mercury intrusion pressure method. Silica gel of different particle sizes celite 545 and nonporous glass were examined for their suitabilty as support materials for glucose oxidase ( EC 1.1. 3. 4) immobilization catalysing the oxidation of glucose to glucolact one. The enzyme was coupled to the alkilamine derivatives of the supports by glutaraldehyde and the effectiveness of the method was compared in relation to the particle and pore sizes. The performance of the immobilized enzyme was studied in a fluidized bed reactor using air as oxigen source
