RESUMO

Molecular studies using near threshold excitation electron impact allow to investigating several states such as weakly-bound Rydberg states of high angular momentum. Threshold electron studies also are useful to determine lifetimes of autoionising states by measuring the apparent shifts in the energy caused by postcollision interaction (PCI) between the eject and inelastically scattered electrons. In spite of these important characteristics, that technique was not applied in Brazil yet. In this work we have developed a Threshold Electron Impact Spectrometer in order to performer these studies in the Laboratório de Espectroscopia Atômica e Molecular DF/UFJF. This spectrometer consists essentially of a monochromatized electron gun covering the energy range from 5 to 200 eV, a penetrating field analyzer and further elements applied in this technique. Tests to evaluate the performance of these elements were done using the Argon, N2 and O2 gases
