RESUMO

It hás been demosntrated that histamine depletion in an isquemic myocardial area, respect to normal myocardium, appears higher in bitches than in dogs. It has been also show that histamine depletion occurs in the rat uterus as an obligatory step in sex hormone-induced hyperemia. The hypothesis was then advanced that histamine could be consumed in the isquemic myocardium in order to produce a compensatory hyperemia, by a mechanism which would depend on sexual steroids. The present experiments aimed to test that possibility. Six groups of 7 dogs each were employed: 1. males; 2. felames; 3. progesterone-injected males. Wich were operated 30 days later; 4. progesterone-injected males , which were operated 60 days later. 5.estrogen-treated meles, operated 30 days later. 6. estrogen-and progesterone-treated males, operated 30 days lates. Experimental steps: nembutal anesthesia, opening of the thorax and coronary occlusion. Fifty minutes later, 2 small myocardial pieces were removed, the first from an isquemic area and the other from normal myocardium . Their histaminic contents were determined by fluorometry. In agreement with other authors, a higher histamine depletion was found in the female isquemic myocardium. Progesterone, after 60 days of systemic action, led to an histamine consumption in the male infracted myocardium that was higher than that observed in the females
