RESUMO

The aim of this work is to study the mechanical properties of the specimen that is made of polystyrene 158K and modeled by thermoplastic injection process. In order to chieve such a goal it was investigeted the variation of the effects in the manufecture process parameters, however it was also analyzed the effects of time and temperature from pos processing execution. This study is characterized by three stages. First, it was carried out a selection of the process parameters that affects the injected mass and consequently the mechanical properties, therefore, the parameters selected were: the injection time; the packing pressure and time. Afterwards, three points were interpreted: the relevance of such parameters over of the injected mass in the specimen; the maximum tensile strenght and elasticity modulus. The second stage, attempted to verify the applicability of the factorial statistic treatment, and the influency of the data range in the adopted to the statistic treatment over responses. Finally, the third stage was to verify the time and temperature effects over the values of the elasticity modulus and tensile strenght, in this case, the thermal treatment was below the temperature of the glass transition material. Conclusively, it was noticed that there is a linear correlation between the injection time and the percentage of the gain rate over the analyzed figures. Moreover, the higher percentage of gain rates occurred to the shortest injection time. However, the statistic treatment represented considerably well the process of the data range analyzed, therefore, this range must be chosen with caution, because in case the range is next to the process limit it could hide important phenomena. Regarding time/temperature effects, it was verified that the elasticity modulus is more sensitive than the tensile strenght both related to time effect and time/temperature effect.
