RESUMO
Drainage network automatically extracted from a SRTM digital elevation model was combined with geologic, gravity and magnetometry data for morphostructural study in the region of the Uatumã River, Amazonas Sedimentary Basin. Data interpretation allowed the identification of different drainage patterns, including trellis, pinnate, contorted, annular and angular patterns. Some characteristic features of these patterns were related to movement of faulted blocks, especially in the sub-basins of the Preto da Eva and Urubu rivers. Thirty-two drainage anomalies were recognized as constituting domes features (twenty-seven), tilted fault blocks (four), and fault-controlled dome (one). Most of the morphostructural features (15) occur in the southweastern portion of the study area. Four of them coincide with structural features previously mapped by seismic survey at the top to the Itaituba Formation, where Petrobras discovered an important gas deposit. Research results demonstrate that morphostructural analysis constitute a potential tool to assist petroleum exploration in sedimentary basins with thick vegetation cover, such as the study area. As the methodology indicates sites with possible hydrocarbon-trapping structures, it can be used to plan geophysical surveys, with the consequent optimization of investments in the data acquisition phase.
