RESUMO

Layered compounds, such as Tin 2-carboxyethylphosphonate, suffer intercalation reactions. In these reactions the layered compound is called host and the intercalated species is the guest. In our case, the acid hydrogens of the host can be exchanged with other cations like Fe. This cations can be used as oxidizing agent in the polymerization of aniline in the interlayer space of the host. Polyaniline is an extensively studied material, due to its potential technological applications provided by its reversible insulating/conductor properties. These are dictated by its protonation or oxidation degree. Polymerization reactions, however, produce disordered chains with crosslinking and conjugation-interrupting defects, lowering the electrical conductivity of the polymer . The composite obtained in this work has polyaniline chains grown in the interlayer space of the host and shows a higher order due to the spatial restrictions. The order of the chains impose a strong anysotropie character to the composite and affects the mass and change transport processes. The photoelectrochemical response of a conductive polymer is directly related to this transport processes, thus we studied this property for polyaniline intercalated in this host.
