Jose de Oliveira Reis, urbanista em construção : uma trajetoria profissional no processo de institucionalização do urbanismo no Brasil (1926-1965/1966)

RESUMO

This study comprehends the professional trajectory of José de Oliveira Reis. Civil Engineer and Geographer graduated at Escola Politécnica do Rio de Janeiro in 1926, worked as public server at Rio de Janeiro city administration from 1933 to 1966 ? when he retires as the State of Gaunabara engineer and also begins an historian work about the city administrations of Rio de Janeiro (1965) ? he becomes a city planner playing an important role at the very process of institutionalization of the city planning practice within the Brazilian city administrations as an professional engineer. This study analyses this city planner/engineer professional trajectory at his main institutional posts: Head of the City of Rio de Janeiro City Plan Commission between the years of 1937 to 1945, and the direction of the City Planning Department of the city of Rio de Janeiro from 1945 to 1963. At this period while working at the department he was intrinsically involved at the city planning debates within the Municipality Brazilian Movement. However, this study is not limited to his participation in City Administration of the city of Rio de Janeiro. A set of institutional dislocations associated to important process of continuous construction of his urban thinking were fundamental to the study of his professional career: New Enterprises for Water Supply of São Paulo Commission, City of Ribeirão Preto Master Plan, City of Vera Cruz Master Plan ? future Brazil?s Capital, and the Aratu-Salvador Naval Base city Master Plan
