RESUMO

This work presents a methodology for calculation of spectrum requirement estimation for future development of 3G and beyond-3G systems based on ITU-R recommendations. It presents a systematic approach that incorporates service category definitions, service environments, radio environments, market data analysis and traffic estimation for these categories and environments, traffic distribution among radio access technique groups (RATGs), required system capacity calculation and resultant spectrum requirement determination. The work accommodates a brief historic of mobile systems and addresses an approaching about the increasing market expectations for wireless communications, as well as consequential change of traffic profile and spectrum relevancy. On the presentation of the scope and steps of the methodology it will be defined service types, traffic classes, service categories, service environments, radio environments and related input parameters for the proposed calculation. In addition, it will be defined radio access technique group and discussed the relationship among service environments, RATGs and radio environments. Furthermore, it is proposed a systematic for collecting market expectations and a process for distribution of traffic among radio access techniques and among radio environments within each RATG. System required capacity calculation will be made by using two separate algorithms for packet-switched and circuit switched service categories, respectively. Moreover, it will be possible to make the spectrum requirement calculation and to apply the necessary adjustments taking into account practical network deployments. The tool used for simulating sceneries implements the proposed methodology and it will be evaluated after a practical application on Brasil Telecoms network. Finally, the results of sceneries simulation take into account the use of 3G technology present the effects of the variation of some main input parameters on the spectrum requirements.
