RESUMO

This study aims to bring the remarkably contemporary work of the Brazilian poet Iacyr Anderson Freitas to the academic discussion. His work is already recognized both nationally and internationally by means of awards and translations of his poems in many countries. Due to the challenge of studying such a vast work, a selection was performed in order to analyze, in his poetry, a theme which not only reflects mans eternal concern about his cosmic and human origins, but has also challenged critics throughout history and today is cast in the form of innovative reflections: the rescue of the past simultaneous to poetic expression. In order to do so, I have chosen some poems which possess a mix of images collected from fragments which, when grouped, bring about the emergence the memory of all memories, even though its full meaning is never reached sisyphically. The presences of a personal memory, a memory rescued from mythology, and another one which removes the veil preceding the creation of language, poetry s essential tool, have orientated this study
