RESUMO

Blends of polyamide 6 (PA 6) and epichlorohydrin elastomers, poliepichlorohydrin (PEPI) and poli(epichlorohydrin-co-ethylene oxide), ECO, with dífferent compositions were prepared by mechanical mixture using a Banbury type mixer. The characterization of the resulting materiaIs was made by Differential Scanning Calorimetry (DSC), Dynamic Mechanical Analysis (DMA), Infrared Spectroscopy by Diffuse Reflectance, Molau test, Scanning (SEM) and Transmission (TEM) Electronic Microscopy (TEM) and mechanical tensile test. Polyamide 6 is a crystalline polymer whose blends with PEPI and ECO are heterogeneous, showing a morphology of elastomer particles dispersed in the polyamide matrix. The results obtained indicate the formation of a grafted copolymer between the polyamide and the elastomer, PA 6-g-elastomer, and a partial mixture between the two components. The blends show, in a general manner, a lower of the tensile strength in comparison to pure polyamide. As a model proposed to explain the blends behavior, it is suggested that the grafted copolymer, as weII as partially miscible phase, be Iocalized in the interface between elastomer particles and the polyamide, in addition the mechanical properties of the mixture are strongly influenced by the interface, apparently more fragile .
