RESUMO

The present study evaluated linear dental movement in maxillary and mandibular complete denture using different flasking technics. Forty pairs of the joint model-wax base, of maxillary and mandibular arches, with mounted artificial teeth, had been randomized distributed into four groups of 10 pairs each, receiving the following treatments: GA: invested in conventional flask, in a total gypsum environment; GB: invested in special flask for simultaneous polymerization using silicone and gypsum base; GC: invested in special flask for simultaneous polymerization of maxillary and mandibular prostheses in a total gypsum environment; GD: invested in special flask for simultaneous polymerization using silicone, gypsum base, and retentions on artificial teeth. The prostheses were processed with heat-polymerized acrylic resin for microwaves energy polymerization, during 20 minutes at 20% of the power, plus an additional cycle of 5 minutes at 60% of the power, of a microwave oven of 960W maximum power, without interval between the cycles. Seven arch distances, two diagonal distances and three transversal distances had been measured, by an only appraiser, before flasking and after processing, with aid of a measuring microscope (Olympus, model STM), with 0.0005 millimeter precision. Data had been statistically analyzed by Kruskal-Wallis test (p<0.05) and Dunn test. It demonstrated statistically significant differences in three arch distances, two diagonal distances and three transversal distances, between group A (conventional flask) and at least one group of bimaxilar flask (B, C or D), with the lesser values of linear dental alterations been found, in its majority, at bimaxilar flask with silicone and gypsum base groups (B and D). Ahead of the experimental conditions gifts, it was possible to conclude that bimaxilar flasking method is more viable when associate to the use of the silicone and gypsum base with or without retention in artificial teeth, when compared with conventional flasking procedure
