RESUMO

Nutritional disturbances, such as overweight and obesity, high blood pressure, and a sedentary lifestyle are major concerns in Brazilian public heath, and are important risk factors for chronic non-transmittable diseases. The main objective of this research was to correlate nutritional condition with blood pressure and levels of physical activity, registered in adults enrolled with the Family Health Program in the district of Carvalho, Itajaí SC. This was a crossectional study, carried out by means of a poll, with home visits. 141 adults were evaluated - 63% (n=88) female and 37% (n=53) male. The variables studied were: nutritional condition (BMI), waist circumference (WC), waist/hip index (WHI), blood pressure (BP), physical activity level (PAL), age (A), schooling level (SL) and income per capita. The results found were as follows: In relation to nutritional condition, 40% of the individuals in the sample were overweight and 20% obese, 61% had high waist circumferences 62% had a high waist/hip index; in relation to PAL, 56% of the adults were physically active, 40% insufficiently active, and 4% sedentary; for school level, complete elementary school was highest (48%) followed by complete secondary school (32%); the average income per capital of the population evaluated was 1.92 minimum salaries per month. The correlation between BMI vs BP was moderate and significant, and the correlations between BMI vs PAL and BP vs PAL were low and significant. In the multivariate Cluster analysis, it was observed that the sample formed three groups, with slight differences between them. The first group was comprised of individuals with a higher level of schooling and income, and lower age range. In group two we see a higher percentage of women with a higher age range and lower level of schooling. Group three was between groups one and two, and was comprised of normaltensive, healthy individuals. This study gives a profile of the community studied by the family health program of Itajaí, enabling the planning of public policies, with preventative and educational activities for this district, improving the health of these individuals and decreasing the expenses on medical care and/or hospitalization
