RESUMO

The intention of this study was to investigate the effects of applying principals of Contact Improvisation in a program of artistic and technical movement training for physically challenged students. The design of the research was of a Randomized Clinical Rehearsal where the subjects were placed randomly in two groups the Experimental Group (G1) and the Control Group (G2). Improvements in the quality of movement were investigated in relation to the following variables: Hurried Walk Rolling on the Beach Lifting oneself like a bubble-gum Jumping across Rocks in a River. A questionnaire was filled out and a test was given to evaluate the variables before and after the period of intervention. The rehearsals were of two hours once a week for ten weeks. A Visual Analogical Scale was used as assign tool. The results showed that a comparison of the data obtained from both groups before the intervention showed no significant differences. However the tests given after the intervention showed gains in the quality of movement with p<.05. The outcome of this research is that when dance is founded in principles where the body is considered an organism in construction and it is given emphasis to the various interrelations and connections of movement behavior it can modify the quality of movement in physically challenger person
