RESUMO
Modern life has imposed more and more, new ways of living for people, mainly for the old who have been experiencing this new stage in their own lives. The present study aims to apprehend, comprehend and analyze the images old people build to represent what they think about old age, themselves, the place and the meanings concerning physical activities practice as corporal exercise. Allowing them to do so, we were interested in making them leave their anonymous position, bringing out memories of thoughts which were built during their lives, as well as, their daily routine at Pedra da Cebola Park. There are moments they talk, as guardians of faith, value and behavior, about themselves and the physical activity, break several paradigms in which the old age is a synonym of old folks home, rest, fragility and inactivity, which represents, nowadays, movement, body, socio-cultural life, personal investments, health, physical welfare and autonomy. The results indicate that the fear of old age, loss of freedom, disease, inactivity and death interconnects to another way to conceive the old age, and the individuals set apart the necessary fears to self-preservation, opening possibilities for self-confidence and faith in themselves. Besides that, their rich and heterogeneous images over the place reveal that the Park stands for peace, silence and safety for them to enjoy any physical activity, without having to be compared with any other perfect and in-good-shape bodies, which usually attend places such as beaches, keep-fit classes and clubs, to show the body exactly the way it is: old. The counterpoint of this representation is in the fact that , each of them, at the same time, confirms the importance of this space for the bodys and lifes movement, he refuses to be simply one more grown older body, trying to swerve other alternative possibilities in this new building world, through aesthetic, dietetic and repairing mechanisms, thus keeping the individuality and identity of the body, along with its passages, messages, characteristics and scars, but that side by side each person should search for the aesthetic that exists inside himself
