RESUMO
The linear and nonlinear optical properties of biological systems were measured and analyzed. Studies on the interaction of light with biosystems can lead to new findings and application in Biophotonics. New optical methods were introduced for the characterization and diagnostic of biological systems (amino acids and fungi). More specifically, a new variation of the Z-scan technique entitled TMEZ (Thermally managed eclipse Z-scanâ) was developed. To demonstrate the method, we explored the large sensitivity of the technique by measuring the nonlinear response of amino acid solutions and biocolloids. Moreover, the wide-field multiphoton microscopy technique was implemented. The nonlinear imaging method allowed the demonstration that multiphoton autofluorescence emission of molecules can be enhanced by metallic nanoparticles. Autofluorescence analysis may also be explored in clinical diagnostic procedures. By exciting several fungi with ultraviolet light, the microorganismsâ fluorescence was observed and characterized, and a new device was proposed for dermatological diagnosis of fungal infection
