RESUMO

This work is an analysis of the devotional experiences of rural workers of the Recôncavo Bahia South, between 1940 and 1970s. As from the litanies prayed in all rural places of the region, at homes, and the pilgrimages to the Nossa Senhora dos Milagres de Brotas Sanctuary, it allows us to realize how men, women and children made and remade their identities, their social relationship, working in the own tasks of the country and praying to their devoted saints. Besides, it shows the changes that the litanies and pilgrimages suffered a long the time and whether one is an extension of the other. It is a portrayal of a social group that found in the popular Catholicism invented and reinvented as form the mixture from elements of the African, European and Indigenous cultures, place to express their values, their customs and traditions, their faiths.
