RESUMO

Considering that the personal and professional characteristics of the real teacher and of the teacher considered "good" (ideal teacher) are relevant to the interpersonal relationship in the classroom, at school, in the success of the academic performance, in the students school and intelectual life heading later to his/her professional and social life, it was decided to make a study, which objective was to investigate the High School studentsperception about their teachers. The data collection took part at a state public High School in a city in the state of São Paulo. The population target of this study is 473 students that totalize 10 High Scholl and Adult Education classrooms during the night from the Public School that was studied. The sample was selected by a volunteer criterion in a proportion of one in each five population elements, in which 10 students of 8 classrooms and 9 students of 2 classrooms. The data collection procedure was composed by three steps: (1) application of a Quis, in the end of it an invitation was made for the to take part of the second step, so the defined sample above was narrowed to 12 students; (2) Individual Interview of Depth with Thematic Cards, where a new invitation was made for them to take part of the third step; (3) Interview in Focal Group, consisting in 9 students. In the data treatment of the first step, as they were quantitative data, the statistical package was used; in the second and in the third steps the Content Analysis was used. The results showed that in respect to the three investigated aspects about the real and ideal teacher, several teacherscharacteristics were considered, and some of them were deriving in all the study, in respect to the personal characteristics and personality, the one in which their teachers are tired , about the professional aspects, the characteristic that their teacher is up-to-date and about the interaction with the students in which their teachers are "friends", but this characteristic was considered for a teacher to be ideal, besides realizing that their teachers are unfair. The raised data show that in the students that took part in the study perception, these three aspects are linked all the time, and its not able to study them separately. Based on it, in the students perception, the ideal teacher should know how to balance his/her professional aspect to the personal one, to have a good relationship with the student, and in some moments he/she can even leave the teacher role, letting his/her personal characteristcs and feelings appear and also dont treat the student in his/her student social role, but as a person.
