RESUMO

Clonal families were obtained from biparental crosses between cv Chiquita and clones (named JUG) immune to PVX and PVY. Cultivar Chiquita presents high levels of resistance to early blight (Alternaria solani) and has good general combining ability for this trait. The objective was to generate clones with resistance to the fungus and the viruses diseases. All fifty-seven families were evaluated for agronomic performance in the field in a randomized complete block design with four replications and three control cultivars. From these families 221 clones were selected and evaluated further in a doubled single-lattice design along with four control cultivars. DNA was extracted from all clones and SCAR marker evaluation was carried out for the Ry allele which confers resistance to PVY. One hundred fourty-nine PVY resistant clones were identified from which 40 were selected due to their good agronomic performance and reasonable tuber dry matter content. The SCAR marker was efficient to identify the PVY resistant clones, eliminating the mechanical inoculation with PVY.
