RESUMO

The laboratory wares which are used for analysis and which supply the needs of Brazil in the evaluation of the quality of milk are, in most of the cases, imported. The Department of Microelectronics at School of Electrical Engineering, together with Faculty of Food Engineering (both at UNICAMP) are working with a proposal for evaluation of microbiological count in milk using a reliable and fast count method in an automated form. The plate count method is used currently in Brazil as a standard for the microbiological count in milk, and the most simple type of these tests takes at least 48 hours to obtain the results. This work presents a method and a future automation proposal at least ninety times faster than the plate count called DEFT - Direct Epifluorescent Filter Technique, which means that this type of analysis can change from control analysis to selection analysis. It was made a detailed description of each method for the comparison in terms of time and cost and also a correlation test between both of them, and the results obtained were better than the expected. The domain of the techniques was indispensable the creation of the proposal of the initial project of automation. The phase of domain for the DEFT techinique brought not only an innovation for the procedure that produced a significative improvement for the final results but also the use of a filtration system projected by the researchers and technicians involved in the project. With this project, results equivalent to those achieved by foreign researches of the area have been obtained, and in some cases these results were even better and 75% less expensive. ...
