RESUMO

This study is based on the importance of information in the current society, the need for access to informational resources as support to the information management activities in Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) that offer long-distance learning courses, as well as the quality of resources that these institutions make available in the Web, such as reliable information, meeting the user?s needs. Criteria are proposed to verify if the informational resources made available in the websites of Higher Education Institutions that offer long-distance learning courses, meet the Guidelines on the Quality Assurance in Long-Distance Higher Education established by the Ministry of Education, considering the rapid expansion of this teaching modality which brings along with it several concerns relating to quality. The research is characterized as exploratory, descriptive and documentary. The data gathering instrument, designed using as a parameter the quality guidelines for the Long-Distance Higher Education comparatively with the institutional accrediting instrument and the courses authorization instrument for the offer in the long-distance modality and also the criteria used as indicators for the data analysis, are considered the qualitative aspects of the research. The quantitative approach closes the final analysis of the collected data. It identifies the HEIs that offer undergraduate courses (Bachelor?s degree and Licenciateship) in the long-distance learning modality in Brazil, accredited by the Ministry of Education. The data collection was carried out in websites of 389 undergraduate courses ? Bachelor?s degree and Licenciateship ? that are offered in the long-distance modality, with the purpose of confirming if the informational resources made available are in line with the quality guidelines. It is emphasized the importance of the sharing of information as support to the Information Management activities in the courses under study. As a result it was observed that the divulgence of informational resources in the sites of the courses is precarious concerning the Guidelines on the Quality Assurance in Long-Distance Higher Education. The study also shows, in some indicators, the representative difference between the courses of public and private HEIs. However, in the general context these percentages are not so different. It is suggested, due to the results, that the courses managers adopt measures which improve the availability of informational resources and information via websites, in order to meet the Guidelines on the Quality Assurance in Long-Distance Higher Education, generating information that may give support to the Information Management activities of the course.
