RESUMO
This work describes two new methods for model reduction of discrete time models, based on the minimization of the H2 and H norms of the reduction error. The methods are defined by a convex optimization problem given in terms of linear matrix inequalities. The resulting solution is suboptimal. The methods are compared to the balanced truncation, a classical model reduction procedure. The results indicate that, with respect to the H2 norm reduction, the proposed method has a similar performance to that from balanced truncation. In the H case, however, the proposed method performs significantly better
