RESUMO

The current study aims to investigate the structural organization of a familiar system constituted by one or more individuals in acute psychic suffering, in such a manner as to allow cognizance of this suffering and its systemic function. To achieve this, we have based ourselves on structural systemic familiar theory and undertook a case-study qualitative research with one family that is assisted by a mental healthcare unit in Distrito Federal, Brasília, Brazil. Following data collection in record and initial contact with the family, interviews were conducted, in order to provide information regarding the familiar life line, genogram and a semi-structured interview, aiming the attaining of knowledge regarding the family structure as PANSS was employed to determine positive and negative symptoms of the identified patient. Qualitative and content analyses of the interviews were utilized to process the collected data. Thus, a description is made, within this work, of the form through which acute psychic suffering is established, as identified in the researched family, of the familiar structure and the organization of such a familiar structure in regard to the established symptom. The relevance of therapeutic work with families and the practical applicability of theoretical precepts herein employed as basis to the development of the work were observed. Suggestions and justifications are made, considering the implementation of public policies, not only ones that encompass early intervention, as well as ones that might be rendered capable of dealing with systemic familiar organization, where the suffering is originated, but also ones that don not exclusively involve family guidance, as currently professed in the field of mental healthcare.
