RESUMO

The objective of this study was to improve bin drying of soybean seed using stationary dryer with radial distribution of air flow varying Relative Humidity (RH). Four batches eight tons each were dried: two with high RH initially and low RH later; two with low RH initially and high RH at the end of drying, which is the innovation. During drying, seed samples were taken from the dryer at 0.15; 0.30 and 0.45m from the perforated central pipe at 0.90; 2.70 and 4,50m height from the dryer floor. Movements of drying front was then determined by seed moisture and temperature and after end of drying, samples were taken to evaluate seed physiological quality through standard germination, tetrazolium -viability and vigor, accelerating aging and field emergency. Results allow the following conclusions: a) average stationary bin drying rate of soybean seeds, with 30 m 3 / minute / ton air flow, is close to 0,80 p.p. / hour using RH of 30% initially and 45% at the end of drying; b) using RH of 45% at the end of drying, seed moisture gradient all over the dryer is below 2%; c) increasing 15p.p. in RH at the end of stationary drying, reduce average drying rate in around 20%; and d) immediately soybean seed quality is not adversely affected by increasing RH at the end of drying.
