RESUMO

The common bean improvement aiming to obtain pathogen resistant cultivars, others agronomical traits must also be considered for assuring its use by farmer and consumer. So, the objective of the present work was to select common bean lines resistant to anthracnose and angular leaf spot, high yield, Carioca grain type and upright plant. One hundred and fifty three lines were selected within five segregating families derived from backcrosses. G2333 was the donor parent carrier of the alleles pyramid for anthracnose resistance (Co-42, Co-5 e Co-7), and the recurrent parents were the lines ESAL 696 (resistant to angular leaf spot and anthracnose through the Co-5 allele) and CI 140 that have ideal agronomical traits. The lines were evaluated and selected in three seasons in the following way: 153 lines plus 16 cheeks in the winter of 2003; 120 lines plus the Talismà cultivars as cheeks in the dry season of 2004 in two locations (Ijaci and Lavras); and finally, 48 lines plus the cheek Talismà in two locations (Lavras and Lambari). The were measured the grain yield, plant and grain type, 100-seeds and resistance to angular leaf spot (natural incidence) and anthracnose by inoculating the races 2047, 1545 and 81, and the SCAR markers linked to the Co-5 allele. Lines with high grain yield, grain type similar to Carioca cultivars, upright plant type, and anthracnose resistant with the pyramid Co-5 e Co-7, some with Co-42 or Co-5 or Co-7 were selected. The SCAR marker was not efficient for selecting lines with Co-5 allele due to the high distance between them and the procedure used in the selection. Only lines with mild resistance to angular leaf spot were identified.
