RESUMO

Nitric oxide (NO) is one of the most important free radicals of the human physiology. Since its discovery, many efforts have been preformed in order to find alternative methods of detection and quantification for this radical in vitro, in vivo and ex vivo. In this work a NO sensor is made with a solid latex matrix was developed and improved. The proposed sensor is based on encapsulating the complex iron(II)-diethyldithiocarbamic Fe+2(DETC)2 in a solid matrix. In this case, the NO radical is trapped in FeDETC, which allows its detection. The latex was used as solid matrix due to excellent biocompatible, natural angiogenesis properties and it is a promising material to be applied in biological systems. The electron paramagnetic resonance (EPR), a selective and sensible technique, was used for the NO detection and sensor characterization. The fabrication and optimization processes was analyzed by FeCl36H2O and DETC concentrations, latex temperature, FeDETC/latex ratio, membrane homogeneity, sensitivity and reproducibility of the RPE signal. The sensor presents high stability when observed by EPR. The NO detection can be observed even after the sensor is exposed to ambient atmosphere for 40 days. It can be reused and is able to measure NO concentration of 0,1mM. These results make the latex-FeDETC a promising NO sensor.
