RESUMO

In this work the performance of different types of thermal oxide electrodes, which were the 70TiO2/30RuO2, 60Ta2O5/40IrO2 and b-PbO2 in the electro-oxidation of the herbicide 2,4- dichlorophenoxyacetic. A plate of platinum was used as auxiliary electrode, and the experiments were followed in water, pH 3.5, solution of potassium sulfate as electrolyte support. The tests were performed using constant values of density of current, imposed by a potenciostat / galvanostatic PGSTAT 20 from Autolab. The reduction of the concentration of the herbicide was monitored by high performance liquid chromatography and total organic carbon obtained by the equipment of the Shimadzu TOC-5000A. During the experiments, the electrolyte was sampled at regular time intervals and injected into the chromatograph for the establishment of profiles of decay with time of experiment. The material of electrode that showed the best performance in educing the concentration of 2,4-D and greater rate of reduction of total organic carbon was the -PbO2, applied a density of 50 mA cm-2. The electrode that showed a slowest process of xidation was 60Ta2O5/40IrO2 and, therefore, had the largest number of compounds intermediaries at the same time in the solution. The sub-products of oxidation were identified some chlorine stable derivatives, as the 2-chlorbenzoquinone (2-CBQ), 2-chlorhidroquinone (2- CHQ), 4.6-dichlorresorcinol (4,6-DCR), 2.4-dichlorresorcinol (2,4-DCR), 2.4-dichlorphenol (2,4- DCF). The experiments showed that the rate of removal of 2,4-D and its derivatives depends on the material of electrode, as the value of the density of current used in electrolysis
