RESUMO

The aim of this study was to evaluate the influence of ultrasonic irradiation on the bond strength to dentin of glass-ionomer cements: conventional (Fuji II-a, Ketac-Fil Plus-b), resin-modified (Fuji II LC Improved-c, Photac-Fil Quick Aplicap-d) and high-viscosity (Ketac Molar-e). Fifty human molars were sectioned, embedded in epoxy resin with buccal or lingual surfaces exposed and grounded to obtain flattened dentin. An inverted truncated cone central orifice matrix was built with bovine tooth and positioned against the dentin. In the control groups materials were just inserted in the matrix. The sonication excitation was applied for 15 seconds on the matrix and on the material (test groups). Specimens were stored in deionized water for 24 hours at 37°C and then submitted to bond strength tests. Data were analyzed by two-way ANOVA and Tukey tests. The mean (SD) bond strengths in MPa for the control groups were: a: 2.21 (0.53); b: 1.85 (0.5); c: 8.65 (2.46); d: 5.93 (1.77) and e: 2.10 (0.57). The results for the test groups were: a: 3.33 (0.96); b: 2.19 (0.64); c: 9.95 (2.79); d: 6.10 (1.41) and e: 2.65 (0.75). Ultrasonic irradiation increased the tensile bond strength of all tested cements. There were no differences statistically significant between conventional and high-viscosity cements. There were differences statistically significant among resin-modified and the other cements. Fuji II LC was statistically better than Photac-Fil. Ultrasonic excitation improved the bond strength of glass ionomer cement to dentin after 24 hours.
