RESUMO

This research is based on the study of a group of teachers of the City of Salvador Public School System who attended the Teacher Training Program, class 1, FACED/UFBA. The study describes the significances of what was read by the students and their perceptions during the learning process in academic level. The relationships between the readings which took place during this process and the improvement of the students criticism skills were closely observed. Academic authors such as Andrade, Bardin, Chartier, Deleuze, Franco, Freire, Gallefi, Japiassú, Jouve, Kant, Lajolo, Macedo, Orlandi, Silva, who have expressed themselves about the themes on reading and criticism were chosen as reference texts. The qualitative approach for the research and the method of Content Analysis, proposed by Bardin, were used in this study. The outline of a corpus of knowledge was planned intending to: a) perceive how the teachers understood the reading during the course of the training process; b) identify the readings done by the participants of the Salvador Project; c) enable the teachers being trained to improve their skills to feel and to think about what they have read critically. The tracks of reading accomplished by the teachers were analyzed by means of interviews, comments and answers to questionnaires. The readings presented by the teachers were based on their common sense as well as on the theories of the authors they have read during the Program. And more: these results point to trends and directions of readings which will help not only the trainee teachers but will also enable the training agencies to implement discussions and undertake researches on this topic.
