RESUMO

This paper aims to debate on the Carnival experienced in the streets of downtown Recife, especially by popular groups, assuming that these groups include Carnival in their daily practices annually, setting up new spaces for revelry. Discusses the role of the state and other authorities in the organization of the party, especially in the period 1930 -1945, when the documentation is observed. A time of legislative measures for the prevention of morals and morality, and the imposition of the ideology of modernity. The study, therefore, follows paths that lead us to examine a specific point in the political, social and ideological, characterized in authoritative discourse of the state and change the perspective of looking at the elites, who come to see the ability to organize and political strength of the working class poor. We identified an appreciation of the mixed culture and its practices by the playful. This shift in thinking and attitude of moving closer to the people, is linked to the speech state-Novista that "all politics isborn of the people." The work is divided into three chapters: the first is dedicated to exploring the different circuit paths of revelry in Recife, especially the central districts, revealing the life of the city and their conflicts behind the scenes to prepare the party and the postures of order that circulate among revelers, the carnival organized by the residents in the streets, clubs, the course, among other experiences. In the second chapter, we highlight two points: first, that the Carnival of Recife is more specific and unique, created in its urban landscape, the FREVO, synthesis of various ethnic and cultural traditions. The second question concerns the discussion about the presence of the Afro-Brazilian religious associations linked to frevo (clubs, exchanges and blocks). Finally, the third chapter, we discuss how frevo and other demonstrations, considered until the beginning of the twentieth century as a synonym for delay, an elite obsessed with European values, becomes a genuine element of Pernambuco, exemplifying the pride of mestizo identity propagated by the state in virtually all social events, especially during Carnival.
