RESUMO

From a history of love in the Occident and from contemporary theoretical discourses, this research aims to create a love typology and engage it in dialogue with some love movies produced in Hollywood between the decades 1970 and 2000. The analysis main goal is to try to find the concepts and images of love on the cinema, based on structuralism and theories of narrative, which work with models or systems of analysis. The thesis is also funded in the comprehension of how the cinema resignifies these love discourses and practices or takes them up to build an idea of love based on social and cultural values and rules related to family and marriage, for instance.
