RESUMO
A total number of 656 patients in caucasian and negroid samples of the "Hospital de Clínicas da Faculdade de Ciências Médicas da Universidade Estadual de Campinas" were submitted to postero-anterior or antero-posterior roentgen projections of the skull. An anthropometric index based on the ratio between the internal interorbital distance and the mean horizontal diameter of the orbit was obtained from each patient. The data were submitted to stepwise regression analyses and age. square of age and sex were the selected variables the for adjustment of the index and estimation of the amount of naso--ethmoidal bone which should be resected in the surgical correctionof orbital hypertelorism.
