1. Comparative study on the biodegradation of chlorpyrifos-methyl by Bacillus megaterium CM-Z19 and Pseudomonas syringae CM-Z6
Abstract: The strains CM-Z19 and CM-Z6, which are capable of highly degrading chlorpyrifos-methyl, were isolated from soil. They were identified as Bacillus megaterium CM-Z19 and Pseudomonas syringae CM-Z6, respectively, based on the 16S rRNA and an analysis of their morphological, physiological and biochemical characteristics. The strain CM-Z19 showed 92.6%

2. OPTIMIZATION OF BIOFLOCCULANT PRODUCTION BY Bacillus spp. FROM SUGARCANE CROP SOIL OR FROM SLUDGE OF THE AGROINDUSTRIAL EFFLUENT
Abstract Biological flocculants are advantageous due to their biodegradability and safety to living beings. In this work, four bacterial strains, isolated from sugarcane cropped soil (Bacillus megaterium LBPMA-APFSG3Isox and B. toyonensis LBPMA-ACOPR1.Isox) and sludge of an agroindustrial effluent (B. pumilus LBPMA-BLD07 and B. thuringiensis LBPMA-EFIII), we

3. Physicochemical and microbiological dynamics of the fermentation of the ccn51 cocoa material in three maturity stages

5. Nitric oxide inhibitory and anti-Bacillus activity of phenolic compounds and plant extracts from Mesua species
ABSTRACT Species from the genus Mesua, Calophyllaceae, are rich source for phenolic compounds such as coumarin xanthone, and benzophenone derivatives. An investigation on the potential biologically active phenolic compounds 1–5 and crude extracts from the stem bark of Mesua hexapetala (Hook. f.) P.S. Ashton and Mesua beccariana (Baill.) Kosterm. for nitric

6. A plate method for rapid screening of Ketogulonicigenium vulgare mutants for enhanced 2-keto-l-gulonic acid production
Abstract A new plate method was developed for rapid screening of Ketogulonicigenium vulgare mutants overproducing 2-keto-l-gulonic acid (2-KLG). The screening methodology took the advantage of the acidity caused by 2-KLG, which changes the color of bromothymol blue (pH indicator) from blue to yellow. Using the proposed method, a mutant, K. vulgare 65, was se

7. Bioremediation of polycyclic aromatic hydrocarbon (PAH) compounds: (acenaphthene and fluorene) in water using indigenous bacterial species isolated from the Diep and Plankenburg rivers, Western Cape, South Africa
Abstract This study was conducted to investigate the occurrence of PAH degrading microorganisms in two river systems in the Western Cape, South Africa and their ability to degrade two PAH compounds: acenaphthene and fluorene. A total of 19 bacterial isolates were obtained from the Diep and Plankenburg rivers among which four were identified as acenaphthene a

9. Enzymatic potential of heterotrophic bacteria from a neutral copper mine drainage
Abstract Copper mine drainages are restricted environments that have been overlooked as sources of new biocatalysts for bioremediation and organic syntheses. Therefore, this study aimed to determine the enzymatic activities (esterase, epoxide hydrolase and monooxygenase) of 56 heterotrophic bacteria isolated from a neutral copper mine drainage (Sossego Mine,

12. Assessment of the metabolism of different strains of Bacillus megaterium
Bacillus megaterium is a promising host for expression of heterologous proteins. This paper reports the nutrient consumption patterns and production of metabolites for three different strains of B. megaterium, ATCC 14945, QMB 1551 and PV 361, which is QMB 1551 with seven constitutive plasmids deleted. 14 h cultivations in agitated flasks were run, for two di
