1. THERMAL PERFORMANCE OF ONE-PASS SHELL-AND-TUBE HEAT EXCHANGERS IN COUNTER-FLOW
Abstract A computational methodology is proposed and applied to calculate the temperature effectiveness, P, and the logarithmic mean temperature difference (LMTD) correction factor, F, of TEMA E shell-and-tube heat exchangers with one-pass and fluids flowing in counter-flow. An arbitrary number of baffles is considered along with three different mixture cond

2. LIQUID FLOW IN IMPELLER SWEPT REGIONS OF BAFFLED AND UNBAFFLED VESSELS WITH A TURBINE-TYPE AGITATOR
Abstract Liquid flow in the impeller swept region of vessels with a turbine-type agitator was examined for the flow path between the neighboring blades of the rotating impeller. Visualization of the flow and its measurement were done using particle tracking velocimetry with a camera rotating along with the impeller. Internal liquid flow of the impeller diffe

3. Study of mixing behavior of cstr using CFD
The continuous stirred tank reactor (CSTR) is a widely used equipment in chemical related industries. The flow behaviour of fluid inside the reactor may either change from dispersion to ideal or ideal to dispersion mixing state. It is studied using the computational fluid dynamics (CFD) simulation software ANSYS Fluent. The mixing behaviour is predicted in t

4. Liquid rocket combustion chamber acoustic characterization
Abstract: Over the last 40 years, many solid and liquid rocket motors have experienced combustion instabilities. Among other causes, there is the interaction of acoustic modes with the combustion and/or fluid dynamic processes inside the combustion chamber. Studies have been showing that, even if less than 1% of the available energy is diverted to an acousti

5. Performance of aerodynamic baffles in cylindrical grinding analyzed on the basis of air layer pressure and speed
Over the years, grinding has been considered one of the most important manufacturing processes. Grinding is a high precision process, and the loss of a single workpiece in this stage of the production is unacceptable, for the value added to the material is very high due to many processes it has already undergone prior to grinding. This study aims to contribu

6. Iluminação natural em projetos de escolas: uma proposta de metodologia para melhorar a qualidade da iluminação e conservar energia / Daylighting in schools projects: a proposition of a methodology to enhance lighting quality and energy savings.
This work aims to analyse daylighting strategies applied in early stages of architectural design as to improve lighting quality and energy savings in school buildings. Similar strategies have already been successfully applied in many countries around the world, enhancing student?s performance and well being while helping to save energy. Among the strategies

7. An analysis of process heat recovery in a gas-solid shallow fluidized bed
This work presents an experimental study of a continuous gas-solid fluidized bed with an immersed horizontal tube. Silica sand (254mm diameter) was used as solid particles and air was used for fluidization in a 900mm long and 150mm wide heat exchanger. Measurements were made under steady state conditions for a solid particle mass flow rate from 14 to 95kg.h-

8. Heat transfer coefficient in a shallow fluidized bed heat exchanger with a continuous flow of solid particles
This work shows the experimental study of a continuous gas-solid fluidized bed with an immersed tube where cold water is heated by fluidized solid particles presenting inlet temperature from 450 to 700°C. Experiments were carried out in order to verify the influence of solid particle flow rate and distance between baffles immersed in a shallow fluidized bed

9. Global analysis of aerodynamics deflectors efficiency in the grinding process
The conventional grinding methods in some cases are not very efficient because the arising of thermal damages in the pieces is very common. Optimization methods of cutting fluid application in the grinding zone are essential to prevent thermal problems from interaction of the wheel grains with the workpiece surface. The optimization can happen through the co

10. Heat transfer in channels with solid and porous baffles.
This work focuses on the study of flow and heat transfer in a parallel plate channel with solid and porous baffles, in both laminar and turbulent regimes by using numerical simulations. The main concern is to validate results by using a unique set of equations (for porous, solid and clear domain) for channels with solid baffles, after that change solid to po

11. Análise da viabilidade de filtro anaeróbio de chicanas no pós-tratamento de esgotos sanitários.
The objective of this thesis is to evaluate the performance of anaerobic filter with baffles (FAC) for the post treatment of anaerobic effluent and using rings cut from PET bottles as filling medium. The experiment was carried out in three phases characterized by the hydraulic retention times of 7, 9 and 10 days, respectively. The analysis of the UASB and FA

12. Performance of maturation ponds using aquatic plants and baffles / Desempenho de lagoas de maturação utilizando macrófitas aquáticas e chicaneamento
