Retomando a admiração que os cronistas do século XVI sentiam pela largura da Baía de Todos os Santos, esta obra consiste em uma coletânea de textos de diferentes autores contemporâneos, que, apesar de tratarem de assuntos distintos, possuem algo em comum: a Baía de Todos os Santos como metáfora e metonímia da Bahia, mais precisamente do Recôncavo e de Salvador.
